BETTORDATA FEED
Live Program 2 works off the Bettordata feed which is a licensed feed received from Subscription Data. This feed provides raw data which then Live Program 2 can use to display in an easy to read format.
The first thing that you will need to do is setup the engine with a username and password so that it can begin download live data. The software comes with the engine as part of its installation files. We just need to configure it.
- Right Click on the “Live Program 2” icon on your desktop
- Select Properties
- Click “Find Target” or “Open File Location” in Vista
- Double Click “cdbde2” and you will get a screen that looks like the following

- Click “Setup” in the top menu

- Select “Receive Via Internet”
- Hover your mouse over “Internet Options”
- Click on “Set Username and Password”
- Enter your subscription data username and password and click “Save”

- Click “Connect in the top right hand corner and you should see the status message right down the bottom if a successful login has occurred.

The Engine will then will begin to start download live information.

- If you start a little later in the day then a lot of races would have already occurred. Therefore we would recommend that you download the day’s data already so everything is up to date. Please Click on “File” and “Auto Download and Import Day File”

12. The software will tell you that it is download today’s data and progress bars will start flashing across the screen.

- When Finished Click on the “Done” button.

- You can see a big difference in the grids on the engine between step 11 and now. It has filled in all the information and you are up to date.

We recommend Steps 11-13 every time you start the Bettordata engine so you are working with the latest available information.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - ACTIVATION & REGISTRATION
When you start Live Program 2 for the first time it will retrieve a number that is unique to your computer and your license. Upon successful connection to the server and retrieval of your ID number the font should change to green, and your message should change from “Retrieving” to a number as below. This is the number you need to quote for authorisation.

If you hit trial or activate immediately after downloading you will be prompted with this message.

If you see this message, please close your program down and await verification and activation via telephone or email.
ACTIVATION & REGISTRATION – LICENSING
After you have received notice that your program is active you will need to click on Trial or Activate depending on the type of purchase you have made.

The software will recognise that you are starting for the first time and proceed to the software licensing agreement.
The values have been auto filled, and the “I agree” checkbox is shaded grey as well as the trial and activate buttons. This is because you must proceed to the end of the agreement indicating you have read and understood it.

One of the sections will have your license fee auto filled.

Once you get to the end of the license agreement you will see that the “I Agree” checkbox becomes active.

Upon checking, your name, date and time will appear in the license agreement.

If you have purchased a subscription period and click on activate, the software will notify you that you are not a registered client.

Upon clicking trial the software now notifies you of the period of time remaining in your subscription period.

The software saves the agreement locally to your computer. Each file name is unique so if you subscribe again after your initial subscription finishes then you can review each agreement.

The software then forwards a copy to ROIC Pty Ltd T/A Horse Racing Software.

The software when opens up for you to the main screen. You will notice that your subscription details are located in the bottom of the screen and contain your ID number, Mode: Trial Mode, Your name and your subscription time remaining.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Settings
BET TYPES
There are several bet types that can be used with Live Program 2. These are mostly orientated around win betting, place betting and a combination of the two.

DUTCH BETTING
What is dutch betting or dutch book?
Dutch betting is a means of backing several runners in a race and achieving the same profit no matter which one of the selections you pick runs first. Dutch betting is too hard to achieve with place betting because of the lower place dividends so when referring to this type of betting, it is mostly win based.
Dutch betting can bet set to one of two modes:
- Fixed Betting
- Target Betting
Fixed Betting - Allows you to specify your intended betting per event. If you want to spend $100 per event you may do so. If you wish to spend $1000 per event you may do so. The program will take your desired bet of $X and split it up over your selections. No matter which of your selections comes first, the returns should be the same.
Target Betting - Allows you to set a predetermined profit amount. In essence you will know how much the net profit return for an event will be before it begins but in fact will not know how much is needed to bet or spend. Let’s say for example you select $20 profit and have Dutch and Target selected.
You know that when the program bets it will do it in such a way that the net profit will be $20. The amount it will actually bet will not be known until the “Calculate” button is pushed or until you select your own runners in the white box mode.
FIXED WIN
When this is selected you are specifying how much money you would like to wager for the selected runner(s) for a WIN bet. Eg $10 each @ 5 runners is a $50 outlay.
The “if auto select” box only applies to “Black Box Mode” which means you are specifying the number of selections that you would like per event for this bet type.
EACH WAY
Each way betting is a common bet type whereby the same amount is covered both for win and place, and you are backing the runner “each way”. If you had “$50 each way” on a horse you would be betting $50 a win and $50 a place with a total outlay of $100.
The “if auto select” box only applies to “Black Box Mode” which means you are specifying the number of selections that you would like per event for this bet type.
FIXED PLACE
When this is selected you are specifying how much money you would like to wager for the selected runner(s) for a PLACE bet. Eg $10 @ 5 runners is a $50 outlay.
The “if auto select” box only applies to “Black Box Mode” (covered later). You are specifying the number of selections that you would like per event for this bet type.
W/P RATIO (Win/Place Ratio)

This betting mode is a slight twist on the traditional each way bet. Rather than just betting the same amount for win and place this betting mode allows you to split up your betting units in a ratio according to your base unit.
In the example above we would be betting 1 (one) win unit to 2 (two) place units using $5 lots/base bets.
Our bet would be $5 WIN and $10 PLACE totalling $15 per selection.
The “if auto select” box only applies to “Black Box Mode” which means you are specifying the number of selections that you would like per event for this bet type.
BET SENDING PREFERENCES

Here you can tell the software where you hold accounts, and how you want your bets sent to the TAB(s).
If you Have VIC or NSW checked, then you MUST use the 3 Tab Bet Sender to send your bets through. If you only want to use a QLD account to send bets through, then you can send using the Netbet Pro, and you must have only QLD selected as your bet sending preference.
Keep in mind, the more accounts you have, the better chance you have of receiving the best available dividends.
You do also have the availability to select according to highest or lowest dividends. The reality of it is, you would have it set to highest dividends, however as dividends fluctuate you can experiment with the reverse.
DIVIDEND FLUCTUATIONS AND POINT SCHEMA

This particular section of the software is used to customise or rate movements based on the dividend fluctuations of each competitor. On the left hand side we have our percentage point movements. In the middle we have a points system that we assign to each of those movements and on the right hand side we have an optional dollar value field.
The software has been written so everything is user-defined. This is so you can completely customise the ratings that the software will produce and set the software to your liking.
Let’s say we have 2 prices:
- $3.60
- $3.40
So what has happened between price one and two is that this runner has “firmed”, or “shortened” in the market by about 6%. According to the settings above this movement would not be allocated any points at all as it is not even between our minimum 10% -20% points allocation range.
Ok, let’s look at another example of four dividend changes over a period of X seconds/minutes.
- $4.5
- $4.0
- $3.5
- $2.8
- $1.5 (an extreme plunge to try to highlight how it works)
Difference between:
- 11.11% = 1 point
- 12.5% = 1 point
- 20% = 1 point
4-5. 46% = 3 points
So in the above example this runner would have yielded 6 points. So what the software is doing is rating all of your selections according to your points system for every fluctuation in the betting from the opening of that particular market.
So it can be said that the higher that you set your percentage figures then the lower your overall “Rating” points will be for each runner. This could make it easier to identify only the much bigger dividend drops or “shorteners”.
A point system such as the one in the example would yield fairly high ratings figures as quite a few runners, from the opening of the betting to the closing of the betting will have such fluctuations. It is by no means an exact science but can definitely be used as an indicator.
The boxes that you enter your percentages in will also form the basis of the colour indicators that will appear on your screen.
If a dividend movement matches your designated “Small Increase” it will yield a pale yellow coloured box.
If a dividend movement matches your designated “Mid Increase” it will yield a pale green coloured box.
The final column on the right hand side shows dollar amounts with the option to tick “Use $”.
This acts like a filter for smaller bets.

The screenshot above is a snapshot of a horse race when the “Use $” is not checked, meaning the dollar filter is not applied. You can see on the screen that some small bets are actually enough to trigger a colour change which inevitably means that it contributes a count of some sort to the points/ratings system. The advantage of using dollar filter becomes apparent when looking for larger bets.

In the screenshot above, “Use $” has been checked and default values of $1000 have been loaded. You can see that several of the highlighted bets from the previous screenshot have now disappeared. $324, $584, $228, $283, $140, $207 and $353 have been excluded, and the larger bets have been isolated. They will no longer count towards the points/ratings system.
Below there are two screens, the first is the above race with no dollar filter, and the second is with a dollar filter. You can see the vast differences in the two ratings systems and it clearly shows that smaller bets do contribute to the points systems quite dramatically.
You can use the dollar filter to isolate runners(s) which have received the larger bets throughout the course of the betting.

EARLY MONEY AND LATE MONEY
At the top of the screens, the software shows some values for early and late money. These are calculated by splitting the grid in half, and distributing the points accordingly. So for example, if the grid had 20 updates, then the first 10 updates would be used to calculate the “Late Money” as per your ratings/points and percentage system. And the second lot of 10 would count towards your “Early Money” as per your ratings/points and percentage system.
*Please note: When you are using the “Use $” filter in the settings early money and late money begin to have less relevance. The higher your dollar filter figures are, the less relevance early and late money have.
LATE MONEY POINTS

The late money point option allows you to select the last X updates to contribute to the late money numbers you will see at the top of the screens.
So in the screen above you can see that 8 updates will be used to determine the late money rating. This would mean that the 8 most recent columns will contribute to the late money points system, and the rest will be used as early money.
Below are two screenshots. The first screenshot is the screenshot above, where dollar filters have not been applied. The second screenshot shows you the columns that would count towards the rating system if “Use Custom Late Money” was checked. The rest of the money highlights would count towards the “Early Money” points.

DEFAULT WINDOWS

You can select which screen you would like the software to open up to after clicking on an event. Side by side is probably ideal as it shows all the TAB’s and you have the facility for the “Quick View” feature.
CRITERIA SETUP

Your criteria setup can form an important part of establishing and maintaining your betting strategy. You can also use this in conjunction with your history filters.
At Present, there are six rules that you can use to setup part of your criteria. You must tick the “Use Rule” box corresponding to the criteria rule(s) you would like to use.
Whilst using the criteria, you will see the following box to indicate whether or not the rules match. Red indicates that at present, the rules don’t match, whereas green indicates the race is meeting that particular parameter.

REFRESHING INTERVALS

You can customise the timing of your software and when it retrieves information from the bettordata engine. The first setting retrieves the time from the bettordata engine. When this is set to a very low figure, you will notice that the time on the software “stalls”. This is because of the rapid pinging to the engine. You can set the software to 5 or ten seconds to mimimise this effect. Update race start times updates your main day screen that displays race start times. 10 seconds is fine to work with and you will rarely need to go below this figure. Update money and odds request new race data from the engine. The lower the figure, the more the software tries to retrieve new information/odds. Five seconds is more than sufficient but you may want to lower this by a few seconds if desired. Please note that if you have it set to very low, one second for example, you will see a constant flickering on your screen. This is normal and is simply the software updating your screen.
POST EVENT UPDATES
Post event updates can be used when analysing races AFTER a day has completed or looking at old race data from subscription data. This “Reds” out columns based either on:
- A set number of columns. In the case below the software would red out the two most recent column updates or;
- Work off a specific time – Zero would work off start time. If you put in 30, it would start to highlight columns starting from 30 seconds to go before start time. If you use a minus figure eg -30 would mean 30 seconds after scheduled start time. This feature can actually be used during live racing in which the software will automatically start highlighting all columns after your designated start time.
The purpose behind this is if you retrospectively analyse races you are giving yourself the best possible chance to recreate what you would have done.

SOFTWARE MODES
Black Box Mode
Black Box Mode is a Mode whereby the software will make selections for you automatically based on your points/ratings system. Quite simply, the higher the rating the more likely a runner will be selected.
White Box Mode
White Box mode allows you the complete freedom to make your own decisions based on what the software is showing.
You will see examples later in this guide that show you how to complete these different types of events.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Event Screen (Vic/Nsw/Qld)
Looking at Today’s (27/01/09) events we’ll walk through a race that has already completed so it’s easier to follow (ie – no numbers and odds will be updating).

From here you can follow the legend in the top left hand corner to figure out what events are starting when. To jump into an event we SINGLE LEFT CLICK on the corresponding grid box.
I’ll do Nowra Race No. 2 that ran (at the time) earlier in the day. I simply single left click on the grid point that matches Nowra and the number 2. This will take me directly to the event.
Here is the main screen that we are presented with.
So let’s break down the top section of the screen.

Green Highlights - The boxes highlighted in green show us all the event details and pool information , scratchings, whether, distance, start time, current time etc.
Red Highlight – This table has six columns
No – The TAB Number of the animal
Name – The Name of the animal
Jockey – Jockey/Rider Name
Bar – The Barrier from which the animal is running
Wgt - The weight the horse is carrying
Pool %- Shows the overall weighting of money that that runner commands out of the pool in total.
Blue Highlight – This is the Rating (“Rtg”) column. These ratings are calculated according to the points allocation and percentage movements that can be adjusted in the settings. Another feature of this particular table is that if you click on its heading (the “Rtg”) it will cycle through and display win dividends for each runner. If you click on the column heading again (which will now read “Win”) it will display the place dividends. This is quite handy if you are using the money feature and need to also view the win or place dividends.
Purple Highlight – You can see that the “Win” has a dot in it and ultimately the WIN fluctuations are displayed in the main area (surrounded by the larger purple box). This updates automatically, fills in the boxes according to your percentage setup and collates and displays the ratings in the “Rtg” column. You can see from the above example that there are a few yellow boxes (representing a 10%-20% dividend increase from our previous settings), one pale green (representing a 21%-30% dividend increase from our previous settings) and none that are bright green (representing a heavy increase of 31% +). The column heading also displays the update times for each of the dividends. It reads from right to left so the open of betting fluctuations will be on the furthest right hand side whereas the latest updates will be to the left side. It has been done this way so your eyes can read the latest updates, ratings and competitor details as opposed to scanning from the far left and then to the extreme right.
Yellow Highlight – The software will also display two forms of indicators.
That of:
- Early Money and;
- Late Money
The point of the early money indicator is to alert the user to a potential early money competitor who HAS or IS subsequently blowing out as a result of early money. Most money tracking programs would not pick this up as they are following the “plunge” in the last few minutes. The software will display the top 4 highest early money movers.
Late Money indicator will display the top 4 late money movers.
Black Highlight – This displays the criteria that you have setup in your settings.
Pink Highlight – Here you have two checkboxes, show calculations and Enable Quick View.
Show Calculations – If this is ticked, when selection(s) are made the software will bring up a second screen with your bet information. It is an extended version of your selection summary.
Enable Quick View – When this is checked, the software will bring up the money flows and fluctuation for all 3 TAB’s when you hover your mouse over the competitor name and number. Please note that quick view mode works only when viewing “Side by Side” Mode.
Let’s now look at the lower half of the software.

Purple Highlight- This displays the average money momentum for each runner both for the win and place pools across all three totes. This can be used as another indicator. This will display green blocks for runners that have had good money momentum and red blocks for bad money momentum.
Yellow Highlight - This will display your selections and also the bet outlays. This will be covered very shortly.
Place Fluctuations
The next screenshot you can see that the “Place” has a dot in it and the dividends have now changed to show place dividends from the open of betting to the current update.

Money Fluctuations
Live Program 2 can be setup to view the actual dollar amounts wagered on each individual runner from the open of betting. We can simply click “Money” and all the relevant information is displayed.
Please note that changing from win to place to money (in any order) will automatically change to that same format across the whole program. So if you were to click on “Money” in VIC, it would also automatically change to “Money” in NSW, QLD, and all the side by side views.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Event Screen (Side by Side)
The side by side screen is handy for viewing all of the 3 TABS’ information. This information is as close to a one screen format as possible without it looking too messy.

We’ll only investigate the top section of the screen as the bottom should be static throughout all the screens and has been explained previously.
Please note that if you hover your mouse over the name or number of any of the horses or dogs in a race a quick view mode will appear. This mode displays all the 3 TAB’s money movement right under each other. This makes it easy to identify simultaneous money dumps across the TAB’s.

You can see from the highlighted section above that the side by side’s section grid is slightly different to the VIC/NSW/QLD grids.
It still displays the Number and Name of the runners but then displays slightly differently.
No - The TAB number of the animal
Name - The name of the animal
V Win - VIC TAB Win Dividend
N Win- NSW TAB Win Dividend
Q Win- QLD TAB Win Dividend
V Plc - VIC TAB Place Dividend
N Plc - NSW TAB Place Dividend
Q Plc - QLD TAB Place Dividend
Rating - Assessed rating according to your point spread setup
You will also see coloured boxes in each of the lines. These symbolise the best available dividends for that runner. Win dividends are displayed in a dark blue and place dividends are displayed in light blue.
You can see that number 1 “TOMINATION” is Dark Blue under the “Q Win” column meaning QLD TAB is offering best dividends. As you can see, $5.10 is indeed the best dividend available. This of course can change as updates occur and more money enters the pools. In the place column “N Plc” has the lighter blue meaning NSW TAB has the best available dividends for this runner. If more than one TAB shares best dividends for a particular runner, then more than 1 highlight will appear.
This screen can be quite handy to also look for overlays. Having all the win and place dividends side by side is essential if that is what you are looking for.
Switching Between States
You can see that at the moment it is set to view “VIC” and is set to view “Win” dividends.

In order for you to see what is going on in NSW simply click on the “NSW” tab up the top and the software will automatically show you NSW dividends.

And if QLD is clicked then all the details are displayed for QLD

If Money is clicked you can see the actual dollar amounts

Let’s click back to NSW to view its dollar amounts

And now back to VIC

You can see that by changing to “Money” on the QLD section has subsequently changed to “Money” across the board. This eliminates any un-necessary clicking.
LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Calculating (Black Box)
As stated earlier in the manual black box mode produces selections automatically based on your points values in the Settings area. This mode is only subjective to the degree that you control your points systems, but there is no way of changing selections manually. If one competitor takes over another in the ratings and you click on calculate, then sure, the software will change that for you. However no user manipulation can occur in black box mode.

Have your software configured like this on the main screen and click on your event. I’ll still continue to use Nowra Race 2.
To bring up the selections you can click on calculate which is located in the bottom left hand corner and highlighted in red. This will then fill up the selections box and if the “Show Calculations” (highlighted in green in the screenshot below) is ticked it will display a detailed selection box. If it is not ticked, you will only see the selection summary filled in the bottom left.

So let’s start with the detailed selection box.

The software has selected three (3) selections and we are doing a dutch bet for a fixed outlay of $100.
Whilst analysing a race the software will fill this area according to its selections. There are six columns in total.
No. – The TAB number of the runner
Name – The name of the runner
Odds – The latest odds capture for the runner
Wager – The amount wagered specifically for the runner
Min % - The percentage profit return on outlay a user should achieve if each that runner wins (if in win mode).
Min $ - The minimum dollar return (gross) should that runner win at the odds displayed.
TAB - The TAB that is offering the best dividends at the time of calculation.
The bet breakdown located on the right hand side is a summation of the selections in the selection box as described the section above
Min Return (%) & Min Return ($) – This will always be one of the lowest figures in the selections box. This is to highlight the minimum return a user can expect should one of the selections win.
Win Outlay – Specifies the total amount you have outlaid for a WIN bet. It will be the total sum of the "Wager" column in the selections table.
Place Outlay – Specifies the total amount you have outlaid for a PLACE bet. It will be the total sum of the "Wager" column in the selections table.
Total – Will stay as 0.
Pool % Covered – is blank on this screen.
If the “Show Calculations” check box is not selected then the selections summary will fill up (it will still fill up even if it is selected) in the bottom left.

VIC/NSW/QLD will show a selection summary as above. It’s all fairly self explanatory if you have read the previous detailed example. The only difference here is the coverage : 48% is shown.
Coverage – Specifies the total overall weighting of money that is covered by the selections in the selections box. For example, you may have two selections in a twelve horse field- one at $1.50 for the win and one at $3.00 for the win - yet you may have 70% of the overall pool covered.

SIDE BY SIDE will show a similar summary (as above) except it will show you the coverage for all 3 TAB”s.
In the above example “Gallus” and “Tiffana” have coloured lines through them because they have placed in one of the top 3 positions. This will be covered in detail shortly.
The selections are also ordered in ratings order, higher ratings at the top, lower ratings at the bottom.
LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Results
You can check for results by clicking the “RESULTS” tab and a screen like this will appear.

This is fairly self explanatory. It displays, win, place trifecta and quinella dividends for all the TAB’s.
It will also display another selection summary so you can quickly identify who came in which position
The software will also colour code your selection summaries if one of your selections came either first, second or third.
GREEN LINE = 1st place
BLUE LINE = 2nd place
YELLOW LINE = 3rd place
An easy way to remember, if you’re going for a winner you want to see a GREEN. If you are place betting any colour line is a return.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Calculating (white Box)
So you want the flexibility to completely select your own runners? I will continue to use Nowra 2 as the example.
This is what the screen looks like prior to selecting White Box Mode.

After clicking white box you should see a new table appear to the left of all the runners. This is the selecting area. Scratched runners are of a gold colour.

To select a horse, we simply tick its corresponding checkbox and the selection summaries will automatically fill up. A green plus (+) sign will appear next to a selected runner.

So let’s add Number 3 by clicking its corresponding White Box grid.

And so forth. To remove a runner simply un-tick its’ corresponding checkbox and it will be removed. This is very simple yet very flexible.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - Changing Bet Types
There will come a time where you decide that you want to change from a dutch bet to a place bet or to a level win bet and vice versa. You can do this very quickly by using your selections summary box.
You can click on the “>” button and it will display a bet mode change dialog.

Change your bet type to whatever you like and now click the “<” button to hide the panel.

LIVE PROGRAM 2 - History
Upon reading this section of the operation guide you will understand how the history can be an important part of establishing your betting criteria, and then using those betting criteria in the “Criteria Setup” of the settings screens to apply to future racing. You will need to build up a history database first of course to help you.
To add a race to the history you can use the “+H” button located on the selection summary OR the “+ History” button on the results Tab. Your event will then show up as follows.

On closer inspection you can see that the history records a fairly detailed account as to what you have bet on. The more races you do (as long as you click on the “+H” button when results are available) the history will keep on filling up.
Once you have established some history you can use some of the filter rules to try to firm up or even establish you betting strategy.

After looking at today’s races we can see that if we had just simply dutch bet on everything we would be in negative territory. This is where the rules/filters come in handy. We can try to eliminate races based on rules, and see if it helps our win percentage.

So you can select the bets type you want to filter by, select the rule and hit filter. You can see that by filtering we can a slight improvement of -15.9% in the bottom right hand corner, but still in the negative. Only one filter was used, “Favorite must be greater than $2.0”

Now we can apply a second filter, “Runners greater than 8 and less than 12”
Now for the first time you can see that you would have shown a profit of 5.49%. Your gross return was $750.1, outlay of $711, leaving a profit of $39.10.

If you click on your “Filtered History” Tab in the top left it will actually show you the events that you would have bet on.

You can also see that the number of events you would have bet on has decreased from 16 to 7. This is a major decrease in events.
Hopefully you can see the advantage of using the history to assist in developing betting strategies and criteria. Obviously you would need a much larger sample of data to truly get yourself underway.
